Hawley Families...we want your feedback. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey at the link below. These surveys really are used to make us better. This year, I have added a few open-ended questions. Please take it seriously and offer us constructive feedback. I truly do read every comment, and I compile the data and share with the board. Campus administration review the data and make goals. This year is even more important as we begin the work of creating our own local accountability system that places more emphasis on the things that are important to our community and less on state testing. I always want to cringe when I put out open-ended, anonymous opportunities. I assure you, I read EVERY comment. Your comments and suggestions have more credibility when they are respectful and constructive. We know we have areas where we can improve and can only do better when we have good parent partnerships. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScrdDJA8Ibr19OoFsuxsq0Vd0fDy5hHefstAcWaTNvQXxLaDA/viewform?usp=sf_link

PEBT benefits
Hawley parents... I am beginning to send out returning transfer applications through Docusign. They should start hitting your email today or tomorrow. You will complete an application for each child. It's a quick form, so it won't take long! The applications are due by MAY 1st to secure your spot. This will help us know how many sections we will need for some grade levels. If you do not get an email this week, please message me so that I can resend it.

Good morning Hawley Families! Hope you had a super spring break. It is now time for us to send out meal applications for free/reduced price meal eligibility. Yes, we are still providing free meals to everyone for the remainder of this school year. Unfortunately, it does not look like USDA will continue this option for next school year. So we need to make sure the students in households that qualify for free/reduced eligibility are ready for those first 30 days of school that we refer to as carry over for 2022-2023. The other reason why we need to get meal applications out is due to the next round of PEBT benefits that will be dispersed. The next round of PEBT will be determined by the students eligibility for free/reduced meals. If the student does not qualify via a meal application or other ways like SNAP, medicaid, etc, they will not be eligible for any PEBT benefits. Meal applications will be delivered this morning to each campus office, and will come home to families this week. We are requesting those applications be returned ASAP so that we can process them and get that eligibility information by the deadline. We are hoping USDA will reconsider continuing free meals for all students. But in the meantime, we are going to make certain our students have the eligibility benefits they need to help ease the financial strain on parents whether it be free/reduced meals next school year and/or the ability to receive the PEBT disbursements!

Hawley ISD will be collecting donations (both goods and monetary) to assist families that have lost their homes in the wildfires in the Big Country. Donations can be brought to any campus office or to the administration building beginning Monday. Right now, basic clothing, toiletries, water, etc… Anything is helpful. I will post more specific needs as I can.

Hawley ISD has redesigned summer learning for our students! We will no longer do the traditional 4-week summer school. We will now be offering Boost Camps for students who do not pass courses during the school year. These camps will also be used to help those kids who do not pass the STAAR test to complete their state required 30 hours of alternate instruction before school starts. It will keep many students from having to stay afterschool during the year and still have time for family activities during the summer. Dates and times are listed below for families to begin planning now! Students will only attend the subject(s) they need! Students will be provided free breakfast and lunch. Parents will need to provide transportation. Boost camps will be from 8:00-4:00. May 31-June 3 Math Boost June 6-9 Reading and English Boost June 13-16 Science/Social Studies Boost June 20th EOC Retest Cram Session End of Course Retests are June 21-24.

Hawley parents: We have been out driving roads. Hwy 277 and some of the main county roads are in decent shape. The roads in town and side roads are still pretty slick. The parking lots at school are in pretty bad shape, as well. We will still be in the 20s tonight, so those wet spots will probably get a hard freeze. Safety of buses continue to be my biggest concern. I do not want to miss another day if we can get students there safely. We will have a 10:00 start tomorrow, Friday Feb. 25th. Buses will not run! Individual families will have different levels of comfort driving on slick roads. Families who do not have a way to safely get their child to school can be assured any absence will be excused. If you will NOT be bringing your child at 10:00, please email your campus at the emails below. You can also call the campus in the morning. Our county roads and in town are a skating rink. Even without more precipitation, our conditions aren’t good. Hawley ISD will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, Feb. 24. We will need to make up some instructional minutes. We will plan to do that by adding 10 minutes to the school day starting next week. That means school will dismiss at 3:50 beginning Monday. We may also need to make those two half days at the end of the semester into full days. We will communicate that as we get closer to May. Hopefully, we will not have to more interruptions between now and the end of the year.

After a conference call briefing with the weather service, winter precipitation is expected to begin this evening. The greatest chances of precipitation in the morning is between the hours of 5:00am and 7:00am. I usually check road conditions around 5:00am, but a lot could change after 5:00 tomorrow. For a regular start, our buses roll out at 6:00am and I am not willing to risk the unknown. We will start at 10:00am tomorrow, February 23rd. This will allow buses to complete their routes after sunrise and give us additional time to see how much impact the overnight precipitation brings. The greatest chances of icy road conditions appear to be expected on Thursday morning. We will continue to monitor throughout the day tomorrow to make decisions regarding Thursday.
