We know we have some pretty special kids at HISD, but we are especially proud when people from outside our community recognize them! Way to go, Bearcats!
To be clear….Hawley is still just selling tickets at the gate the old fashion way…with cash. We will also take Senior Citizen Passes. The information I posted below is for Thursday’s JV game IN JIM NED…
Tickets for Thursday's football game in Jim Ned will be sold 100% online. They do not accept any cash at the gate. However, they do accept senior, district, media, THSCA, and TGCA passes.
Children under 5 will not need a ticket.
You will be able to find all game tickets on the the Jim Ned C.I.S.D. Website.

Hawley Families...As we kick off this new school year, one of the things we will be working on is making sure our kids feel safe on campus. I spent some time this summer with some great kids who volunteered for the student ambassador program and we discussed how we can help tackle the bullying problem in our schools. We want to make sure that kids and adults understand what bullying really is and how we can report it. We created this poster and it will be plastered all over campus. The poster has a QR code...even though the kids told me that QR codes are "old school" and it also has an email address where the kids can email concerns. They suggested that I use my email (YIKES) but they settled for letting me create a new one just for safety concerns. It still comes directly to me! We spent a lot of time talking about the difference in someone being rude or mean, even though they still might need to be in trouble, and true bullying. Parents can make reports as well, using the email, QR code, or going to the district website to the safety form at the bottom of the homepage. Help us create a safer Bearcat community!
Hawley Families...Within days of me mailing out information packets to 800 students, TEA has released new guidance on COVID for the upcoming year. The COVID guidance you are receiving in the mail will be replaced with this requirement. Please review the regulations at the link below. We will be relying heavily on parents to help us monitor onset of symptoms so that we can ensure students don't miss any more school than necessary if they test positive for COVID. Please understand, this could all change again at any time. We will do our best to keep you updated on the latest requirements from TEA and the Health Department.

Over the last few days, I have spoken with many teachers, administrators, and parents who are heartbroken over the tragedy of our fellow Texas school family. Along with the heartache comes fear. I can honestly say that these situations are the biggest nightmare for educators, and it is so hard to create safe environments but to also encourage an open-door mindset with families and the community. It is a tough balance between engaging our outside community and locking ourselves up as tightly as possible. When COVID hit, we became much less open to our community and parents. It was more difficult to attend events, and many events were cancelled altogether. I feel the concerns for our student safety is going to create the same scenario. Hawley ISD does not ever want parents and the community to feel unwelcome, but our primary responsibility are the 1,000 staff and children we have up here daily. I do want parents and our community to know what we are doing and have been doing. We have been increasing our security over the last few years and have created secondary entrances at our secondary campuses to prevent anyone from direct access to classrooms. We also added an exterior corridor on our Kindergarten building for the same reason. One of the most significant steps we have taken, has been arming employees. HISD has multiple employees across the district who have been trained in school safety and response. We have people who have actively stepped up and are assuming the responsibility to put their life on the line to protect our Bearcat Family. They have the full backing of the administration and board to take whatever steps are necessary to defend our kids. We have also partnered with the City of Hawley to bring in an officer and K-9 for increased presence on our campuses and at our events. Prior to the events of the last few weeks, HISD had contracted with Navigate 360, which is an amazing tool that will give us much needed student and facility information directly to our phones in the event of an evacuation. Teachers will be able to immediately check in and identify the members of their class who are safe and students unaccounted for, which alerts other staff of needs and problems. We also have 20 individuals who are set up to be trained to provide the instruction for ALL HISD STAFF, in the ALICE Active Shooter Response Protocol. All staff at HISD will be trained before the beginning of the year. Moving forward, we will also be making some changes to our physical campus. We will be adding some additional exterior fencing and gating around the perimeter of our campuses. My long-term goal will be for the nice metal fencing similar to our football field. However, we will likely start off with chain length fencing so that we can have it up before the beginning of school. This fencing will require all guests to enter the main building, especially at the elementary campus. At the beginning of the school year, we will be conducting a full evacuation drill with the entire district, including required parent pick up. You will receive much more information about that process as we get closer to the school year. We can never plan for everything, but we can do everything we can to plan for what we can. I know these changes will be an inconvenience and make moving around the district a little more difficult. But, our kids are worth every inconvenience!
Hawley Families…
Hawley ISD is very excited to be offering an Afterschool Program through a grant for the next two school years. Marci Stokes will be the new Afterschool Coordinator. As we begin planning for next year's afterschool program, we would love to receive parent/guardian feedback to help guide our decision-making. This is just an interest survey--you are not signing your child up for the program.
Even if you have no interest in your child participating in the program, please fill out this form because all feedback is valuable.
If you have multiple children in Hawley ISD, please fill out a separate survey for each child ONLY IF your answers vary greatly based on child. Please complete the survey by May 26th.

Sometimes adults can’t solve kid problems alone. I am looking for students that are interested in helping the adults at Hawley ISD address real problems. Beginning in the 2022-23 school year, Hawley ISD will be creating a Student Ambassador Program. Our first project will be to tackle bullying in our schools. This program will provide students an opportunity to be positive agents for change. Included in the process is an application, parent reference, student reference, and interview. Students who are interested should check out the information at the website below. Students who are currently in grades 1st-11th are eligible to apply. Applications for the 2022-23 school year are due MAY 13th.

Hawley Families...
We were hopeful that TEA would give us some options of waivers for the MANY snow days we had to have in February, but they are not. To complete our required instructional minutes, May 18 and 19 will no longer be early release. We will release at 3:50 on both of those days.
