Dear Kindergarten Families,

I am very excited to spend this important school year with you and your children.  It will be time spent growing and learning. I can’t wait to get to know each of you and see what adventures the year has in store for us!  Here’s a little more about me:

I have been married to my husband, Jim, for 30 years this December.  He retired two years ago from a career as a US Marine. His career took us on many adventures all over the world.  My favorite place we lived was Okinawa, Japan. (But now I’m thrilled to be back in the great state of TEXAS!) We have three children who are all grown and married and six grandchildren! (5 boys and 1 girl 😊)

I grew up in Goldsmith, Texas and Anton, Texas until I went to college at ACU where I earned my bachelor’s degree in business administration.  While we were still in the Marine Corps I went back to school to become a teacher, graduating from the University of South Carolina. Then I kept going to school and earned a Ph.D. in education from Capella University.  My favorite things to study are

  • how to meet the needs of the whole child (physical, emotional, educational, etc.),
  • how to build community so everyone feels they belong,
  • and how cultural values affect education.

This will be my fifteenth year teaching elementary school.  I have taught grades K-5, but mostly first grade. This is my second year teaching kindergarten.  I LOVE getting to know parents. We are partners in meeting the needs of the children. Please let me know if you have questions or concerns.

I hope my passion for children and for life-long learning will shine through and be contagious.  I’m looking forward to a great year together!

Sincerely yours,

Dr. Dana Willeford
